China Merchants Bank most competitive

(March 14, 2005) The Research Centre for China Banking Competitiveness of
the Chinese magazine "The Banker" released its competitiveness-ranking
list of Chinese commercial banks on March 12th. 14 state-owned and
joint-stock commercial banks appeared on the list of "Integrated
Competitiveness." China Merchants Bank took first place, followed by
China Minsheng Banking Corporation and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
China Construction Bank (CCB) and Bank of China (BOC), which have been
engaged in joint-stock reform since the end of 2003, increased their
integrated competitiveness, ranking fourth and fifth on the list,
respectively.
