Kids enjoy communicating with foreign friends
www.chinanews.cn 2007-07-27 16:18:33
Chinanews, Beijing, July 27 C Teacher, can you do me a favor by
finding another foreign partner for me? I have worked out the itinerary.
The bed is made ready. I even have prepared a small gift for my
partner, a student, who recently participated in an international
exchange program in Jilin, told his teacher anxiously, the China Youth
Daily reported.
On July 22-25, the Eighth Invitational World Youth Mathematics Event was
held in the Affiliated Middle School of Jilin University in Changchun,
Jilin Province. As part of this event, teachers at Jilin University
organized a cultural exchange activity. With this activity, most Chinese
students were encouraged to find their foreign partners and let their
partners dine and live at the homes of Chinese students.
When some Chinese students learned that their partners could not
participate in the activity as scheduled, they felt very disappointed.
We don't expect that our students love this program so much. In future,
we might consider organizing more programs like this, the teachers at
that Middle School said.
Li Bingtong was a middle school student that participated in the exchange
program.
I have a lot of exciting experiences these days. My foreign partner was
just like a mirror to me and she helped me learn many new things, Li
told this reporter how she attended the Cultural Exchange Night held on
July 24.
My partner is a very active and humorous guy. By talking with her, I
learn that the education system in her country is quite different from
ours. In her country, she only takes a few classes. To tell the truth, I
am a bit envious of her, Li said.
Most foreign students were impressed by Chinese food. James, a US middle
school student, kept talking about dough drop soup, vegetable or meat
strung on sticks and cooked in hot and spicy soup. To James, the
delicious food reflected Chinese peoples wisdom in their daily life.
It was the first time for Canadian student Mariya to learn how to make
Chinese dumplings.
It was a bit difficult but I enjoyed the whole process. Everybody
worked together and chatted while making dumplings. At last, everyone
shared the things that they made. This is good for promoting family
union. I enjoyed it very much, Mariya said.
Chinese students think that foreign students are active and independent.
When I first pay a visit to someone's house, I usually feel nervous.
However, foreign students were very relaxed when they visited my home,
said Yuan Wangyue.
On foreign students part, they think that Chinese students are kind,
diligent and hard-working.
