MEXICO CITY -- Three chess Grand Masters from China, including the
International Chess Federation (FIDE) women's world champion Xu Yuhua and
her countrymen Bu Xiangzi and Wang Yue, have qualified for the men's
World Cup against the world's 128 strongest players, FIDE's executive
director David Jarrett told Xinhua on Monday.

Xu Yuhua, 29, obtained her automatic pass to the World Cup to be played
at Khanty-Mansysk, Russia from November to December, since she is current
women's world champion and because FIDE rules states "A competition
described as a women's event is reserved for women players but women
players are entitled to compete in events described as men's events,
Jarrett added.

Bu Xiangzi, 22, and Wang Yue, 20, obtained their respective passes to the
event in China's FIDE zonal, Jarrett added.

The Chinese chess players must confirm their World Cup participation
before the deadline on October 11, Jarret said.

It is still possible for more players from China to qualify for the World
Cup if they earn their passes at the Asian Continental Championship that
will be held in the Philippines?from September 19-29, Jarrett said.

The World Cup will be played on the elimination knockout system.

If current world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia wins the World
Chess Championship Mexico-2007, being played in Mexico City and will
conclude on September 30, he will be expected to face Bulgarian Veselin
Topalov in a World Championship match format.

If Kramnik does not win, he will have the right to play a match against
FIDE's Mexico-2007 world champion and World Cup's winner will play a
match against Topalov.

The winners of the two matches will face each other in a match.

Xu Yuhua, 29, with 2502 FIDE rating, won her champion title at the
Women's World Chess Championship at Ekaterimburgo, Russia, by defeating
Russian Alisa Galiamova (2467 FIDE ranking), 3-0 in a four-game match.
Galiamova decided to forfeit the fourth game since Xu's advantage was
decisive.

Xu, besides being a women's Grand Master of chess, is a law graduate,
living in southern China. She learned chess at the age of six.

Vishwanathan Anand, current World Chess Champion Mexico-2007 contender
and highest FIDE-rated player, has won the World Cup twice, once in
Shenyang, China (2000) and another in Hyderabad, India (2002).
